A range of professional services is provided in the area of Applied
Psychophysiology and Behavioural Medicine. Therapeutic applications
in the fields of chronic pain, stress, anxiety, asthma and treatments
of general physiological disregulation are the central focus of
clinical work.
Chronic Pain
Evaluation and treatment of a range of chronic pain conditions,
such as musculoskelatal pain of the back, neck, face and arms. This
also includes chronic tension headaches, migraine, temporomandibular
pain and bruxism.
Gynaecological and Urologic
A comprehensive clinical service is provided to patients experiencing
a range of gynaecological and urologic conditions such as chronic
pelvic pain, incontinence and sexual dysfunction. Conservative,
non-pharmacological and non-surgical treatment options are available
for those suffering from vulvar pain associated with vulvodynia,
vulvar vestibulitis and vaginismus. In addition to counselling and
support, the primary treatments utilize specialized protocols based
on the application electromyographic feedback for purposes of evaluation
and muscle rehabilitation. These applications are also beneficial
in the treatment of anorgasmia, incontinence and interstitial cystitis.
All treatments are undertaken in close cooperation with medical
specialists.
Anxiety and Stress
Therapy based on psychophysiological self-regulation, utilizing
multi-modal biofeedback, is used in the treatment of a range of
stress and anxiety related disorders. Muscle tension, headaches,
migraine, tinnitus, sleep disorders, essential hypertension, heart
arrhythmias, fear, phobias and anxiety attacks are the most common
disorders treated.
Asthma
Therapeutic interventions are also being trailed in the non-pharmacological
treatment of asthma. New protocols are being tested based on international
research findings using heart rate variability biofeedback.
